V&A East Storehouse contains public viewing galleries and enclosures as well as significant storage units where thousands of artifacts will be kept for the Victoria and Albert Museum in Stratford’s Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Our carpentry and joinery package included 3 bespoke timber viewing enclosures. These will be home to some of the most important objects in the V&A’s collections:

Kaufman Office: Frank Lloyd Wright’s office for Edgar J Kaufmann. Designed by the most significant American architect of the century, it retains all its original woodwork, furniture, carpets and textiles.

Frankfurt Kitchen: One of circa 10,000 kitchens made to the designs of the Austrian architect Margarete (Grete) Schütte-Lihotzky, installed in flats in Frankfurt during the 1920s – 1930s.

Robin Hood Gardens: Located in Poplar, East London, a nationally important and internationally recognised work of Brutalist architecture. Completed in 1972, the building was designed by Alison (1928 –1993) and Peter Smithson (1923 – 2003), British architects of lasting international reputation. The V&A is acquiring a section of this to showcase in one of our bespoke enclosures.

At the entrance of the museum, we installed a cabinet that will display a section of Queen Elizabeth II wedding dress. Also included within our scope were timber doors, acoustic wall panelling, reception desks, shelving and kitchenettes. It was great to contribute to a project of such cultural and historical importance.
