Project Description

Barlby Road Schools is a brand-new school complex built on behalf of The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea for the surrounding Ladbroke Grove area. The development comprises of two separate schools.

The first being Barlby Primary School, which supports 357 children between ages 3 & 11. The second is a special educational needs school that provides specialist support to children and adolescents using the latest technology and equipment.

Swift Crafted were responsible for delivering the carpentry, joinery, and fixed furniture packages. We had a fully committed and driven group of carpenters and managers that completed the project to a high standard, gaining much praise from the client.

With the support of our Supply Chain, Swift Crafted designed and installed state of the art teachers walls and kitchens. We installed large folding partitions, which allow the two schools to be closed off or open at a touch of a button.

We are particularly proud of our sensory room fit-out which involved installing, and carefully calibrating, high-tech equipment to provide a room for children with special educational needs to enjoy and explore. Items within these rooms included a range of light projectors, sensory lights, wall padding, ball pits and rope swings.

The most challenging element of the project was the installation of our timber acoustic panelling due to its complexity. Also, we had to install this to the atrium which created more challenges in the way of working at height. We were able to produce quality panelling that is one of the schools’ main features.

Overall, this was an enjoyable and successful project that Swift Crafted were proud to be part of. The residents of Ladbroke Grove will benefit from the amazing facilities for years to come.
